The story

Twenty grams per racquet. Then it's thrown away.

Every time a racquet is restrung, the old string is cut out and goes in the bin. Twenty grams of polyester – six times a year for a keen player, every match for the pros. Worldwide it adds up to thousands of tonnes a year, and nobody takes care of it.

We do. The string is collected from clubs, stringers and tournaments, washed, ground and turned into a material we can print objects from. No glue, no new material to speak of. Just string that has finished playing and gets to stand still.

Everything happens in Båstad. The small workshop is open if you want to see how it's done.

Follow along from the first string.

Everything goes up as it happens: the stringing rooms, the boxes, the prints that fail and the first number that comes out right. In English – stringers are everywhere.

The collection

Four objects. Two colours.

Natural is the string's own colour – grey-brown, slightly speckled, different from batch to batch because the strings are. Black is dyed, even and dark. Same material, same traceability, two expressions.

Nothing can be traced that hasn't played.

That's what we mean by all strings being attached. The string that hit match point on centre court can stand in your window – and you can see that it did.

For clubs and stringers

You cut. We collect.

It costs nothing and takes no time. The string you'd throw away anyway goes in our box instead – and every piece made from it carries your name in the trace.

  1. 1You get a box and an account on app.allstrings.se, where you register the racquets you take in for stringing – with a simple code per customer.
  2. 2The cut-out string goes in the box. Polyester on its own, everything else separate. We do the final sort.
  3. 3When the box is full we collect it, or you send it. The batch carries your name in the trace.
